Small and inconspicuous, Antlia is an insignificant southern constellation. Its most prominently interesting feature is the beautiful spiral galaxy, NGC 2997. It is also home to many galaxies that belong to the Arp Madore catalogue of southern peculiar galaxies as well as a couple of galaxy groups.

    NGC 2997:
Exquisite and eye catching, this bright spiral galaxy is a glorious example of a spiral. It has wide sweeping blue tinged spiral arms that wrap around an interesting nucleus. The spiral arms are smothered with many star forming regions that provide nice contrast to the blue colour.
