(The Water Snake)

An inconspicuous and largely ignored constellation, Hydrus was created by Johann Bayer in 1603. Somehow it represented a snake to Bayer as it is a triangle of faint stars situated between the bright beacon that is Achernar and the south celestial pole in Octans. It also happens to be between the two Magellanic Clouds. There are some various deep sky objects but they are unremarkable.
